Where does the creative life begin

When we are truly looking out at the life and art practice of an artist, what are we really doing? The answer to that depends so much on personal factors such as… who you are and how you are oriented towards the creative process.

For some, it is like a foreign language yet to be mastered, while for others it is part of their everyday life. There are also many people who were once creative, especially in their youth, who have lost this knack of having creativity at the center of their lives.

I am less interested in how we lost this sense of joy from our creative lives, rather, I am focused on how we can regain the insight and joy of the creative life? It is with this aim uppermost in my mind that I begin this ARTLIFE +.

The Avec Pleasure team and I look forward to presenting many art concepts and various artists of merit through this blog. We welcome your feedback, insights and constructive contributions.

Avec Pleasure loves highlighting the works of the talented and inspired artists who are working with new approaches to contemporary art practice.

I have known MERRICK BELYEA for almost twenty years and this month I am highlighting the wonderful body of works ‘ANTHROPOCENE LANDSCAPES’ which he is about to shown in Sydney at the MAY Gallery. I strongly recommend a visit to this show while it is up. You won’t be disappointed. His work is both poetic and insightful.

Avec Pleasure presents Merrick Belyea

‘Merrick Belyea’s paintings are deeply focused on the curious human appetite for destruction. Environmental concerns are central to his recent paintings, referring to a potential for devastation, pointing to a future of mechanical scarification of the landscape. Paring back the veneer of previously prepared paint layers reveal the detritus of process and the fragility of surface.’
